National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has called for an investigation to determine whether an anti-collision device was installed on the rail route where a train crash occurred in Balasore, Odisha. The accident killed at least 261 people. Abdullah said that the railway minister recently announced that the new anti-train collision system Kavach had been installed. Abdullah believes that if the device was already in place, an investigation needs to determine why it failed. Indian Railways has clarified that the Kavach was not available on the route where the accident took place. Farooq emphasized that this tragedy exposes the need for better safety measures in the Indian rail system.
