Faroe Islands to Host 2027 Island Games as Ynys Mon Pulls Out

The Faroe Islands have been chosen as the host for the 2027 International Island Games, taking over from Ynys Mon (Anglesey) due to financial constraints. Ynys Mon cited the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and other incidents as reasons for their withdrawal. The chair of the Ynys Mon organizing committee expressed disappointment but remained committed to hosting the games in the future. The Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory of Denmark, had originally been selected as the preferred bidder for the 2031 edition of the Island Games. Jorgen Pettersson, the chairman of the International Island Games Association, thanked the Faroe Islands for stepping in and emphasized the spirit of unity and cooperation within the Island Games family. The recently concluded Island Games were held in Guernsey, with over 2,000 athletes from 23 islands participating in 14 sports. Bermuda, one of the participating islands, secured ten medals across various sports. The next Island Games will be held in Orkney in 2025, followed by the Isle of Man in 2029.
