Farmers in the Kiphire district of Nagaland have received training on the management of fall army worm (FAW) in maize crops. Nagaland Forest Management Project, NSRLM Longmatra, ICAR for NEH Region and KVK Kiphire jointly conducted training on integrated pest management for the control of FAW in maize. Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung, Senior Scientist and head of KVK Kiphire, delivered a lecture on the life cycle of FAW and highlighted the importance of regular scouting of maize crops to know the infestation of the FAW. Temjenna Jamir, SMS (Agromet) KVK, Kiphire, spoke on cultural and bio-pesticide approaches to controlling FAW, advising farmers to adopt Bacillus thuringiensis in places where there are no sericulture activities. A total of 207 farmers attended the training programmes, which also included the distribution of pest management inputs. In addition, another awareness programme on rainwater harvesting and its efficient use in agriculture was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Pfutseromi.
