Union minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that India’s farmers could become providers of daamar or bitumen for the country’s road infrastructure. Speaking at a function in Pratapgarh, he said the government plans to use crop stubble to prepare bitumen, thereby enabling farmers to become daamardata, alongside the traditional roles of annadata (grain providers) and urjaadata (energy providers). Gadkari expressed confidence that under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state’s road infrastructure will soon be at par with that of the US, and he praised the use of sustainable materials in road-building as part of the government’s environmental agenda.
