Former Union Minister Prakash Javdekar recently announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has increased fertilizer subsidies for farmers by five times during their tenure. Javdekar praised the government’s efforts to improve farmers’ lives, pointing out that over the last thirty years, the Modi government was the first to receive a full majority, with an absolute majority expected in the future.
Javdekar commented that PM Modi had prioritized development over politics and had not discriminated against any state. He also noted that the fertilizer subsidy had been increased five-fold to protect farmers from international market price increases.
The Modi government has allocated Rs 1 lakh crore towards agricultural infrastructure, a significant increase from the Rs 21,000 crore allotted during the previous UPA administration. Additionally, the BJP government has increased the agricultural budget to Rs 1,25,000 crore, while agricultural credit has reached Rs 20 lakh crore. Finally, Javdekar highlighted the government’s efforts to distribute soil health cards to 13 crore farmers.
The former minister stressed that the benefits of the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme have reached more than 30 lakh farmers in Karimnagar. He went on to say that Rs 1,33,000 crore had been paid to farmers under the crop insurance scheme, while Rs 2,60,000 crore had been distributed to 11 crore farmers under the Kisan Samman fund. Finally, Javdekar noted that Telangana’s farmers also counted among the beneficiaries.
Javdekar’s remarks indicate that the Modi government is committed to helping farmers and improving agriculture in the country. These efforts have led to increased support from the farming community, with many praising the government’s initiatives to boost agricultural infrastructure and develop new schemes to aid farmers in need.
