In Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, a 32-year-old farmer named Ramsingh was electrocuted to death while irrigating his field with live electricity wires. The locals and farmers blamed the power distribution company for failing to implement safety measures. They showed their anger by blocking the Jharda bus stand route with the farmer’s body placed on a cot. On Friday, the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission issued a notice to the power distribution company demanding a comprehensive report within a month. The legal heirs of the deceased farmer should be informed about the compensation amount. The local Congress leader demanded greater compensation and a government job for a family member. The commission stressed the need for effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future, as there have been repeated accidents and fatalities caused by the negligence of senior officials of the power distribution company. The revenue and police officials reached the spot and assured assistance to the victim’s family. The life of Ramsingh could not be saved because of the negligence of the power distribution company. We need to think about safety measures implemented by companies, which would prevent such fatal incidents from occurring in the future.
