Former Friends actor Matthew Perry’s sudden death has left fans and athletes mourning the loss. According to reports, Perry drowned at his Los Angeles home on Saturday. The 54-year-old American-Canadian actor, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the popular sitcom Friends, was more than just a television star. He was a passionate hockey fan and a keen supporter of the Ottawa Senators.

Athletes and sports fans took to social media to express their sadness at Perry’s passing. Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III tweeted, Matthew Perry was more than Chandler Bing. He was what made Friends go. Sad to hear of his passing, but thankful for the memories he gave us. Rest in Peace.

Perry’s love for hockey was well-known, and the Nashville Predators’ organist even played the Friends theme song during their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs as a tribute to him. The Ottawa Senators, Perry’s favorite club, also honored him on social media, calling him one of Ottawa’s proudest sons and the biggest hockey fan.

But Perry’s love for sports extended beyond hockey. He was an avid supporter of the New England Patriots and often attended their games. He also threw out the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers game in 2012. Basketball was another sport Perry enjoyed, as he was frequently seen at Los Angeles Lakers games during the Kobe Bryant-Shaquille O’Neal era.

Perry’s connection to sports went even deeper, as he was a talented tennis player in his youth. Born in Massachusetts and raised in Ontario, Canada, Perry was one of the top-ranked Canadian junior players before he decided to pursue acting as his main focus. In an interview with The New York Times in 2002, Perry said, I needed to succeed at whatever I was doing so I could feel better about myself. I had this incredible drive on the tennis court, and that translated into acting.

Throughout his life, Perry made appearances at various sporting events, including New York Rangers games at Madison Square Garden and matches featuring the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks in Southern California.

Matthew Perry’s sudden death has not only shocked the entertainment industry but has also deeply affected sports fans around the world. His passion for sports and his ability to bring joy to millions through his acting will be remembered by friends, fans, and athletes alike. Rest in peace, Matthew Perry.
