Family Tragedy: Suicide Attempt Leaves One Dead, Two Critical in Bargarh
In a heartbreaking incident in Sohela, Bargarh district, three members of a family have attempted suicide by consuming pesticides. Unfortunately, one of them, Bansidhar Sahoo, couldn’t survive the ordeal and passed away while receiving treatment at Burla Hospital. Bansidhar’s mother, Kumudini Sahu, and his sister, Subarman Mahajan, are currently in critical condition and undergoing treatment at Sohela Hospital.
The distressing event unfolded when Kumudini Sahu, wife of the late Arjun Sahu, along with her son Phulidhar Sahu and daughter Subarman Mahajan, consumed pesticides at their residence earlier today. Neighbors, sensing trouble, promptly alerted the police as the door of the house was locked from the inside.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police broke open the door, only to discover the family members in a critical state. They were immediately rushed to Sohela Hospital, with Bansidhar later being transferred to Burla Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his condition.
The family had been grappling with mental strain since the unfortunate demise of Arjun Sahu on September 6th. The prolonged illness and subsequent loss of their beloved patriarch had evidently taken a toll on their emotional well-being. It is suspected that the extreme step of attempting suicide was a result of the overwhelming mental pressure they were facing.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the urgent need for raising awareness about mental health issues. Suicide attempts as a response to emotional distress must be addressed promptly and sensitively. It is critical for society to come together in providing a support system for those in need, particularly during times of loss and grief.
While the investigation into this tragic incident is still ongoing, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of mental health and the devastating consequences that can arise when it is not adequately addressed. The local authorities, along with mental health organizations, must now join hands to implement effective measures to identify and support individuals who may be vulnerable to such circumstances.
Our deepest condolences go out to the grieving family, and we hope that Kumudini Sahu and Subarman Mahajan receive the best possible care and support during their medical treatment. Let this heartbreaking incident be a catalyst for increased awareness and action, urging society to prioritize mental well-being and extend a helping hand to those in need.
