Family Foundation Honors Deceased Sister, Fights Inequity and Bullying
The SBR (Shanquella Brenada Robinson) Helping Hands foundation has been established by family and friends to commemorate the life of Shanquella Robinson and make a positive impact in the Charlotte area. The foundation aims to ensure that Shanquella’s memory is celebrated beyond the anniversaries of her birth and death, according to her sister, Quilla Long.
Tragically, Shanquella Robinson passed away on October 29, 2022, in Cabo, Mexico. Long believes that her sister was bullying before her untimely death, leading her to include mental health and bullying initiatives as part of SBR Helping Hands’ mission.
The primary objective of the foundation is to give back to the community and provide support and resources to individuals experiencing challenging times. Deloris McMurray, Keairra Grier, and Keshia Donaldson, who are part of the executive team, are working towards this goal. They also plan to provide scholarships for individuals interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology, which was a passion of Shanquella’s.
To raise awareness on their mission and to stand up against bullying and inequality, the foundation organized an empowerment brunch in Charlotte, featuring influential figures such as activist Tamika Mallory, family attorney Sue-Ann Robinson, and Basketball Wives star Jennifer Williams. Sue-Ann Robinson emphasized the importance of remembering Shanquella Robinson’s name and ensuring a blueprint is in place to aid other families facing similar situations. She also mentioned ongoing efforts to seek justice for Shanquella.
The event successfully brought together powerful women who have turned their personal pain into a purpose. Long expressed her commitment to keeping her sister’s name alive through the work of the organization and the positive impact it aims to make in the lives of others.
SBR Helping Hands was also involved in a back-to-school event at Stick Williams Dream Fields in Charlotte, demonstrating their dedication to serving the community and supporting local initiatives.
By establishing the SBR Helping Hands foundation, the family and friends of Shanquella Robinson have found a way to channel their pain into a purposeful mission. Through their work, they hope to honor her memory and touch the lives of others in a meaningful way.
