Family Continues to Demand Justice for Le’Keian Woods After Viral Arrest Video
The family of Le’Keian Woods held another protest on Sunday, intensifying their demand for justice to be served in the case of Le’Keian Woods, who was forcibly arrested by Jacksonville sheriff officers in a now-viral video. The arrest, which Woods’ attorneys have described as unnecessarily violent, has prompted the family to send a letter to the Department of Justice, urging them to investigate the arrest as well as other issues within the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred when detectives from the JSO Gang Unit suspected Woods and others of being involved in a potential drug deal. Woods, who was riding in a pick-up truck, jumped out of the front passenger seat and fled through an apartment complex after officers pulled the vehicle over. A chase ensued, resulting in officers tasing him twice during the apprehension.
Le’Keian Woods’ mother, Natassia Woods, expressed her determination to bring her son back home and ensure that his story remains relevant. As a mother, she wants to ensure that people understand she has not forgotten about her only child. Currently, Woods faces two counts of violating probation and has been taken to a jail in Leon County in connection with a 2018 homicide. He had previously faced a second-degree murder charge in an attempted robbery that took place in a Tallahassee apartment complex, where his roommate was fatally shot during a drug deal.
The arrest report reveals disturbing details, stating that one detective struck Woods five times in the face and once in the ribs, while another kneed him four times in the ribs and face. As a result, Woods’ face was left bloodied, and his mug shot showed him with two swollen black eyes.
Woods’ mother has voiced her concern regarding her son’s injuries and the care he receives. According to her, Le’Keian’s vision is still blurry, and he has trouble seeing. He continues to take antibiotics for a ruptured kidney and experiences a lack of feeling in his hands, in addition to severe soreness throughout his body.
Throughout this ordeal, Natassia Woods has been grateful for the support she has received from the community. Many people have reached out, offering blessings and prayers for her son’s recovery. Her hope remains steadfast, believing that her son will eventually come home.
