Families of victims who lost their lives in India’s worst train accident in decades attended the All India Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Bhubaneswar to identify and collect their loved ones. The railway officials have recommended a federal criminal probe over the accident that killed 275 people. Survivors of the crash, who are being treated in local hospitals, are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. Railway officials have said that signaling failure might have caused the derailment of two trains that led to the accident. Only 45 bodies have so far been identified out of the 275 victims. Compensation has been promised by the federal government to help the victims’ families. The state had 123 trains scheduled to go through after the accident which have either been cancelled or delayed. After two days of repair work on the tracks where the crash happened, some train traffic was restored Sunday evening. Days-long journeys by families from neighbouring states to identify and claim bodies continued.
