Explosion Erupts at Tennessee Gas Plant, Prompts Evacuation Order – No Injuries Reported
NUNNELLY, Tenn. – In a recent incident, an explosion occurred at a natural gas plant in Tennessee, leading authorities to issue an evacuation order for residents within a one-mile radius. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The explosion took place at the Tennessee Gas Pipeline/Kinder Morgan facility in Nunnelly, situated approximately 60 miles southwest of Nashville. As a safety precaution, the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office promptly declared a mandatory evacuation for residents living within the defined radius. To accommodate those displaced, the Fairfield Church of Christ and the Nunnally Community Center extended their premises to provide shelter.
According to Kinder Morgan, the explosion and subsequent fire originated at a compressor station due to an equipment failure. The company is now determined to investigate the cause behind this malfunction.
Local law enforcement, fire departments, as well as hazmat crews from the Nashville Fire Department and Franklin Fire Department, quickly responded to the scene. Even though a small fire persisted at noon, experts assured that there were no air quality concerns. Amanda Siegel, the director of the Hickman County Emergency Management Agency, stated that it remained unclear when affected residents would be allowed to return to their homes.
