At least one person has been killed and dozens injured in a tragic incident at a gas station in Crevedia, Romania. The explosions, which occurred on Saturday at a liquefied petroleum gas station near the capital Bucharest, have left authorities and residents in shock.
Following the first explosion, the fire spread to two tanks and a nearby house, prompting the evacuation of residents within a 700-meter radius. Traffic on the national road had to be blocked to ensure everyone’s safety, according to the government’s emergency response unit.
Tragically, a second explosion took place later in the evening at the LPG station, causing further injuries. Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat, who oversees the emergency response unit, revealed that 26 firefighters were among those hurt. Of the total 46 individuals injured, eight were in critical condition due to severe burns.
In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu held an emergency meeting with relevant state agencies to coordinate efforts. Following the meeting, Ciolacu announced that four patients would be transferred to hospitals in Italy and Belgium for specialized treatment. This highlights the severity of their injuries and the need for advanced medical care.
Although 25 fire engines were immediately deployed to the scene, the fire has not yet been fully extinguished. Arafat expressed concerns about the possible occurrence of more explosions as a third tank at the site poses an ongoing risk.
