The body of Gino Hagenkotter, an escaped prisoner from Northeast Philadelphia, was discovered in a warehouse earlier this week. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office has since revealed that Hagenkotter died as a result of an accidental drug overdose. The 34-year-old inmate had escaped from a city prison on November 30. The warehouse where his body was found showed signs of forced entry, with a broken air vent, a pushed-out fan, and a ladder nearby. Initially unidentified, Hagenkotter was later identified through fingerprint analysis. This incident marked the fourth escape from a Philadelphia jail facility this year. Hagenkotter had a criminal history involving theft and drug charges and had been in and out of jail for eight years. He was scheduled to be transferred to a drug treatment facility but was required to remain in jail after an open retail theft case was discovered. Hagenkotter’s death has been ruled accidental, highlighting the ongoing challenges and risks posed by drug addiction within the prison system.
