The 2005 Ashes cricket series between England and Australia is widely considered one of the greatest series ever played. The matches were thrilling, with one decided by just two runs, another drawn with one wicket remaining, and the final won by three wickets. Following England’s victorious final Test at the Oval, the players celebrated in style.

The party started the day before the official celebrations, with the team already deep into their celebrations when their manager informed them of a bus tour early the next morning. Despite this, the players carried on partying and were treated to a champagne breakfast the next day.

The bus tour was met with huge crowds, something that came as a surprise to the England team who had expected only a few people to attend. The tour included Geraint Jones holding a Dalek doll with the words Australians exterminated attached, while Kevin Pietersen sprayed champagne over fans.

The celebrations moved to Mansion House, where the team was greeted by the High Sheriff, before moving onto Trafalgar Square where fans cheered and sang alongside the victorious England team. The final stop of the day was a visit to No.10 Downing Street, where they were met by then-prime minister Tony Blair.

The celebrations continued the following day, with Andrew Flintoff set to appear on TV. However, Steve Harmison decided to play a prank on him, writing expletives on his face with a permanent marker. Despite being hungover, Flintoff made it to the TV appearance and scrubbed off the ink with turpentine oil.

The 2005 Ashes series was a memorable event, not only for the thrilling cricket but for the legendary celebrations that followed England’s victory. It remains a historic moment in English cricket, capturing the hearts of the nation.
