Around 600 Emirati pilgrims are set to leave the UAE for Saudi Arabia by June 23 to perform Hajj, the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, as part of a humanitarian initiative supported by the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation. The initiative will fund the journeys of pilgrims with low incomes. Dr Mohammed Al Falahi, director general of the foundation, confirmed that priority had been given to elderly Emiratis who had not previously gone on the pilgrimage. Each group of 45 pilgrims will travel in a new bus accompanied by a supervisor. The foundation is also sponsoring an additional 400 pilgrims from other countries.
