Animal Rescue League of Boston Seeks Assistance in Investigating Emaciated Dog Found in Franklin Park

The Animal Rescue League of Boston is seeking the public’s help in their urgent investigation of a severely emaciated dog discovered near Franklin Park in Dorchester. The approximately 1-year-old canine, now named Dobby, was found as a stray in mid-August and has since been receiving care at the ARL’s Dedham Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Upon arrival, Dobby underwent a thorough veterinary examination, revealing the most concerning issue to be his extreme state of emaciation. Weighing a mere 37 pounds, he received a body condition score of 1 out of 9, signifying the highest level of emaciation. His bones, ribs, lumbar vertebrae, and pelvic bones were visible from a distance, indicating a complete absence of body fat and noticeable muscle loss. The presence of pressure sores suggests that he had been confined to a cramped space.

To address Dobby’s condition, a refeeding plan was implemented, resulting in an initial weight loss but eventual progress and weight gain. Despite his positive trajectory, he is not currently available for adoption due to his delicate state.

Anyone with information related to this distressing case is urged to contact ARL Law Enforcement at (617) 426-9170 x110 or email cruelty@arlboston.org.

It is disheartening to witness the suffering of animals like Dobby, but stories such as his shed light on the importance of animal welfare and the need for a compassionate society. The Animal Rescue League of Boston remains committed to finding justice for Dobby and diligently investigating the circumstances that led to his severe emaciation.

Animal neglect and abuse are serious issues that affect countless innocent creatures. As animal lovers, it is our collective responsibility to speak up and report any suspicious or concerning behavior. By doing so, we can ensure the safety and well-being of these voiceless beings.

In the coming weeks, Dobby will be placed into foster care, where he will continue his journey towards recovery. With the support of dedicated professionals and the kindness of foster parents, he will receive the care and attention necessary to rebuild his strength and regain his health.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston is immensely grateful for any information that may assist their investigation. The public’s involvement is crucial in holding those responsible accountable for the suffering Dobby endured. Together, we can strive to create a society in which animals like Dobby are protected, cared for, and cherished.

Let us all stand united against animal cruelty and work tirelessly to ensure that every animal has the opportunity to live a life free from harm. Together, we can make a difference, one rescue at a time.
