Elon Musk’s xAI Introduces Grok AI Chatbot for Provocative Queries and Real-Time Updates
Entrepreneur Elon Musk has unveiled the first offering from his artificial intelligence firm, xAI. The newly launched AI chatbot called Grok is set to have a touch of rebelliousness while competently answering stimulating questions that other AI chatbots like ChatGPT might shy away from.
Unlike its counterparts, xAI claims that Grok will possess access to current and real-time information about global affairs, which it will acquire by extracting data from the X/Twitter platform. According to the announcement made by xAI, Grok will also respond to sizzling questions that most other AI systems tend to reject.
The unveiling of Grok takes into account the aim of xAI to cater to people of diverse backgrounds and political beliefs. This approach capitalizes on one key criticism faced by ChatGPT, the leading chatbot powered by OpenAI, which has faced accusations of promoting a left-leaning bias.
Elon Musk himself took to X/Twitter to share a demonstration of Grok’s capabilities, where it showcased its ability to provide up-to-date information.
While still undergoing beta testing, Grok is currently accessible to a select group of users. Musk mentioned on Twitter, Grok is still a very early beta product – the best we could do with 2 months of training – so expect it to improve rapidly with each passing week with your help.
xAI describes Grok as being modeled after The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and intends to train it to answer nearly any query and even suggest questions to ask, which proves to be a challenging feat in itself.
The term grok was coined by renowned science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein in his 1961 novel, Stranger in a Strange Land. In the book, it is presented as a word from the Martian language that does not have a direct English translation, but its meaning is generally understood to represent a deep understanding.
With the introduction of Grok, Elon Musk’s xAI aims to provide an AI chatbot that not only tackles spicy questions but is also equipped to offer real-time updates, catering to a wide range of user queries. The beta testing phase will assist in refining the functionality and expanding its capabilities.
