Errol, a retired engineer, shared that Musk grew up using shotguns, revolvers, and rifles, becoming quite the crack shot. At the age of 11, Elon was even given his own .22 rifle with a scope. He accompanied experienced big game hunters on hunts in the Timbavati game reserve area, where he once caused a scare by cocking his rifle immediately after sighting game at midnight – a no-no with the risk of mistaken shooting.
Despite the potential danger, the hunters were impressed by Elon’s enthusiasm and spirit. They returned with truckloads of game, showcasing Elon’s natural-born hunting instinct. However, Errol emphasized that hunting was only a part of his son’s boyhood and that it is no longer a significant interest in his adult life.

In 2020, he caused a stir by sharing a picture of his bedside table with prop guns, including a replica of George Washington’s flintlock pistol and a replica Diamond Back .357 revolver. Additionally, Musk’s participation in shooting competitions as a child demonstrated his exceptional shooting skills, winning him cases of J&B whisky at the age of 12.
While hunting may be a controversial topic, with varying opinions on its ethics and conservation efforts, Elon Musk has yet to fully distance himself from the activity. Earlier this year, he supported Montana Republican Senator Steve Daines, who faced a Twitter ban for sharing a photo of a successful antelope hunt.
