Election Interference: Media Targeting DeSantis, Painting him as Troubled and Vulnerable

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is facing intense scrutiny from major broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC, as they continue to criticize his presidential campaign. Despite the fact that the Iowa caucuses are six months away and the first 2024 GOP presidential debate is a month away, the networks are claiming that DeSantis is struggling, has plummeting support, and is bleeding cash. These assertions come even as DeSantis consistently polls higher than other non-Trump candidates and raised more money in his first month as an official candidate than all Republicans and President Biden.

On NBC Nightly News, anchor Lester Holt declared that DeSantis’s campaign is burning through cash and struggling. Norah O’Donnell, anchor of the CBS Evening News, stated that DeSantis is garnering fresh criticism and losing ground. Anti-Trump author and chief elections correspondent Robert Costa added that DeSantis’s standing against the former President has declined in recent months. ABC’s World News Tonight anchor David Muir highlighted a poll showing DeSantis trailing Donald Trump by 30 points nationally and even in his home state of Florida.

Correspondent Rachel Scott further praised DeSantis’s decline, claiming that he is falling further behind Trump in all accounts and his campaign is bleeding cash, spending $180,000 on private jets. She also emphasized that Trump continues to attack the Florida governor relentlessly. Scott repeated these criticisms on Tuesday’s Good Morning America, asserting that DeSantis’s reset is already failing because Trump continues to crush his rivals and criticizing Trump has drawn a mixed response from voters in a state where the former President is still very popular.

However, CBS Mornings offered a more neutral segment featuring voters who believe the race is not over yet, despite the news of staff firings and fundraising not meeting expectations for DeSantis. Co-host Nate Burleson pointed out that Republican voters have the right to choose their nominee without interference from the liberal media.

It is worth noting that Tuesday’s coverage from the liberal media was made possible by advertisers such as Ashley Homestore, Cadillac, Google, and Progressive, whose contact information can be found on the MRC’s Conservatives Fight Back page.

In summary, major broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC have continued to heavily criticize Governor Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign, despite the fact that the Iowa caucuses and the first 2024 GOP presidential debate are still months away. While there might be some concerns about his campaign’s progress, it is important to present a balanced view of the topic, taking into account different perspectives and opinions.
