The authorities in Bengaluru are putting in place detailed plans to ensure the city is not devastated by monsoon season this year. Last year’s heavy rainfall caused havoc which exposed the poor infrastructure of the city. Following the newly elected Congress government’s request, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has been asked to prepare for any eventualities. Plans have also been put in place to run control rooms around the clock and keep vehicles and equipment in a state of preparedness. There has been criticism that the various agencies associated with administration and infrastructure lack coordination and that the current infrastructure is not ready to face another monsoon season. Ambika Mani, a software entrepreneur and President Bytarayanapura Constituency for JD (S), praised the infrastructure of Singapore and suggested that the Bengaluru officials learn from their example. Removing blockages and encroachments and the formation of a restructuring committee have all been recognised as potential solutions in tackling the issue.
