Eight Charged in Sydney Drug Syndicate by Strike Force Shiel

Drug and Firearms Squad detectives have arrested and charged eight individuals in connection with an alleged drug syndicate operating in Sydney. The arrests were made as part of the ongoing investigation by Strike Force Shiel, established by State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad.

Yesterday, around 3 PM, strike force detectives, with the assistance of Operational Support Group ODIN, executed a search warrant in North Bondi, resulting in the arrest of a 49-year-old man. The suspect was taken to Waverley Police Station, where he was charged with nine offenses, including participating in a criminal group, supplying prohibited drugs in large commercial quantities, and dealing with proceeds of crime.

Following the initial arrest, multiple search warrants were executed in Zetland, Burwood, Wiley Park, Concord West, Belmore, Campsie, and Beverley Hills. These warrants, conducted with the support of various State Crime Command squads, the Public Order & Riot Squad, the South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group, the Dog Squad, and the Australian Border Force, led to further arrests and the seizure of significant evidence.

During the execution of the search warrants, law enforcement officers discovered gold bullion, prohibited weapons, and substantial amounts of prohibited drugs. The drugs seized included 12.5 kilograms of heroin, 8 kilograms of methylamphetamine, and 10 kilograms of cannabis. Additionally, approximately $360,000 in cash was confiscated. All seized items will undergo forensic examination as part of the investigation.

The operation resulted in the arrest of three men, ages 29, 32, and 46, at the Beverley Hills address. The youngest individual was charged with supplying a prohibited drug of an indictable quantity, while the 32-year-old man faced similar charges. The 46-year-old man was charged with breaching bail conditions and is scheduled to appear before Bankstown Local Court.

At the Belmore search warrant, a 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with participating in a criminal group and supplying a small quantity of prohibited drugs. Similarly, a 63-year-old man was arrested at the Campsie location and charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug in large commercial quantities, as well as dealing with property proceeds valued at a minimum of $100,000. The latter individual was refused bail and is expected to appear in Burwood Local Court.

Furthermore, a 38-year-old man was located and arrested in Rouse Hill, and upon being taken to The Hills Police Station, he was charged with five offenses, including dealing with property proceeds of crime. Finally, a 31-year-old man was apprehended in Neutral Bay and charged with supplying cannabis of an indictable quantity.

The arrests and subsequent charges mark a significant development in the ongoing efforts to dismantle the alleged drug syndicate operating across Sydney. The diligent work of the Strike Force Shiel detectives, in cooperation with various law enforcement agencies, has resulted in the disruption of a large-scale drug supply network.

The defendants will face court proceedings, allowing the justice system to determine their guilt or innocence. The collaborative efforts of the agencies involved demonstrate the commitment to combating organized crime and protecting the community from dangerous drugs and firearms.

The investigation continues, with authorities remaining resolute in their pursuit of justice and the dismantling of criminal networks that threaten the safety and wellbeing of Sydney residents.
