Egypt Launches First ‘Drive Thru’ Post Office, Revolutionizing Access to Digital Services
Egypt has introduced its first ‘Drive Thru’ post office, an innovative concept aimed at transforming access to digital services. The new branch, located in Nasr City and equipped with advanced technology, enables citizens to access Egypt’s integrated government, financial, and postal services without leaving the comfort of their cars. The inauguration of this pioneering facility was led by Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, alongside Sherif Farouk, the Chairperson of Egypt Post.
The ‘Drive Thru’ post office in Nasr City is the first of its kind in the country and represents a significant leap forward in service provision. Known as the in-car service office, it enables citizens to effortlessly avail themselves of postal, financial, and government services, including civil registry and obtaining a violations certificate, all from the convenience of their vehicles. Minister Talaat emphasized that this office marks a transformative shift in the way services are delivered to citizens.
In addition to the Nasr City branch, plans are underway to expand the network of postal outlets across the country, including the Egyptian Post with its 4,500 post offices. The expansion strategy includes the establishment of mobile post offices, compact postal kiosks, and other innovative office types that allow customers to access services from their cars. Minister Talaat revealed that the goal is to introduce this type of office in Greater Cairo and various governorates.
Chairperson Farouk explained that the opening of the ‘Drive Thru’ post office aligns with Egypt Post’s strategic plan to enhance service accessibility and quality. This modern postal outlet offers customers a unique experience, providing swift and efficient access to government, financial, postal, and digital Egypt services during their daily commute. With easy interaction with counter employees, seamless transactions, and access to ATMs, customers can utilize the services without stepping out of their vehicles. The roads leading to the service windows are equipped with signs to ensure smooth entry and exit, facilitating regular movement of cars.
During the inauguration, Minister Talaat personally experienced one of the services offered by the ‘Drive Thru’ post office, driving his car up to a service window to complete a transaction. Spanning an area of 2,000 square meters, the office features seven windows providing a range of services, including fine payments, bill payments (electricity, water, gas), pension disbursal, current account services, transfers (local and international), correspondence services, parcels, express mail, postal savings, and landline phone bill payment. Moreover, the office is equipped with advanced surveillance systems, alarms, and a UPS device, operating 24 hours a day from Saturday to Thursday, and from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays.
The introduction of Egypt’s first ‘Drive Thru’ post office demonstrates the country’s commitment to enhancing accessibility and efficiency in service delivery. With its innovative approach, citizens can now access a wide array of digital services without the need to leave their cars. As Egypt plans to expand such facilities to additional areas, it further facilitates convenient access for citizens throughout the country.
