The efforts of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, a prominent Indian educationist, still hold significant importance today. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Mukherjee on his death anniversary, emphasizing his role in preventing the partition of India and saving Bengal from British control.

Mukherjee served as the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University at the age of 33 and played a noteworthy part in India’s independence movement. After independence, he became India’s first Minister of Industries and Food in the interim government.

However, Mukherjee’s patriotism led him to distance himself from the government as he disagreed with their policies and ideologies. Instead, he founded and became the president of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, openly opposing the government’s appeasement policies.

During the ongoing deterioration of situation in Kashmir, Mukherjee raised a slogan for the country, opposing the creation of separate laws for Jammu and Kashmir and granting separate recognition to the state’s Chief Minister. He emphasized that there cannot be two Constitutions, two Prime Ministers, and two flags in one nation.

Mukherjee was arrested during that time but still managed to turn his slogan into a movement and campaign. His sacrifice for saving Kashmir and maintaining India’s unity is still commemorated by many today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi permanently abrogated Article 370 in Kashmir, fulfilling Mukherjee’s dream. Many youth in India today still hold him in high regard for his unwavering dedication to the country.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Brijesh Pathak, former minister Mohsin Raza, MLAs Dr. Neeraj Bora, Rajeshwar Singh, Yogesh Shukla, and others were all present at the event.

Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s efforts to preserve India’s unity and independence continue to be cherished today. His vision and actions have undoubtedly had a lasting impact on India’s history.
