Eddie Murphy Set to Star in First-Ever Holiday Movie on Prime Video
Hollywood veteran Eddie Murphy is stepping into the holiday spirit with his first-ever holiday movie, Candy Cane Lane, set to release on Amazon’s Prime Video this December. The announcement by Prime Video has generated immense excitement among fans eagerly anticipating Murphy’s comedic take on the holiday season.
Candy Cane Lane is described as a holiday comedy adventure that revolves around Chris, played by Murphy, who is determined to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. However, things take a hilarious turn when Chris unintentionally strikes a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper, portrayed by Jillian Bell. Pepper’s magical spell brings the iconic 12 Days of Christmas to life, causing chaos and excitement throughout the town.
To save Christmas for his family and the entire community, Chris, his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross), and their three children must race against time to break Pepper’s spell. Along the way, they encounter deviously magical characters and engage in a battle of wits, all while trying to preserve the true spirit of the holidays.
Candy Cane Lane marks a long-awaited reunion for Murphy, director Reginald Hudlin, and producer Brian Grazer, who previously worked together on the 1992 hit movie Boomerang. The film will also see Murphy take on a producer role alongside renowned filmmaker Ron Howard.
Director Hudlin expressed his excitement for the upcoming holiday movie, stating, I can’t wait for the world to see Candy Cane Lane. I’ve wanted to make a Christmas movie my whole life, but I wanted to do something fresh and surprising. Hudlin promises viewers a laughter-filled, heartwarming film that captures the essence of Christmas.
This will be Murphy’s second movie appearance of 2023, following his role in the Netflix film You People earlier this year. Additionally, it was reported in May that Murphy is in talks to play Inspector Clouseau in the next adaptation of the detective comedy series The Pink Panther.
Candy Cane Lane is written by screenwriter Kelly Younger, who drew inspiration from his childhood experiences residing on a street in El Segundo, California, fondly known as Candy Cane Lane. The movie boasts an impressive cast that includes Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Nick Offerman, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, D.C. Young Fly, Riki Lindhome, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Lombardo Boyar, Danielle Pinnock, and Timothy Simons.
Fans and movie enthusiasts worldwide eagerly anticipate the release of Candy Cane Lane, eager to witness Eddie Murphy’s comedic talents bring the holiday season to life. Be sure to mark your calendars for December and get ready to embark on a festive adventure filled with laughter, magic, and the true meaning of Christmas.
