The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has decided to conduct a drone survey of the Bandhwari landfill every month to monitor the volume of legacy waste, the waste processing procedures of private agencies, and the height of the landfill in various places through drone photography. The surveillance is aimed at carrying out an authentic and scientific study of the waste processing procedures and to ensure the processing of 15,000 tonnes of waste every day. Out of the 28.5-acre landfill, 10 acres of land is being utilised to set up a waste-to-energy (WTE) plant. The land-fill site in Bandhwari has around 2.5 million tonnes of legacy waste and receives around 100 tonnes of garbage per day. In May, MCG processed 230,000 tonnes of waste, the highest so far, as a part of its goal to clear the landfill site in the next eight months. MCG has floated tenders to invite new private agencies to expedite the waste processing. The agency has also decided to install 13 CCTV cameras at the landfill site for real-time tracking of waste management.
