Authorities in Polk County, Florida, are on the lookout for a driver who allegedly fled the scene after a high-speed crash over the weekend. The incident occurred at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Parkway and Pine Tree Trail in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a trooper was conducting radar speed enforcement when a red 2015 Ford Mustang zoomed past at nearly 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. The trooper quickly activated his emergency lights to engage the driver, but the Mustang turned off its lights and sped away. The trooper lost sight of the vehicle and decided to abandon the pursuit.
As the trooper approached the Ronald Reagan Parkway and Pine Tree Trail intersection, he discovered that the Mustang had collided with a Nissan Pathfinder. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, and the driver of the Mustang, identified as 18-year-old Ramon Santiago-Garcia from Haines City, and a passenger fled the scene.
Fortunately, the authorities managed to locate one of the passengers from the back seat of the Mustang with the assistance of Polk County deputies. However, Santiago-Garcia and the second passenger remain at large.
Emergency services transported the occupants of both vehicles to local hospitals for treatment. The conditions of the two women in the Pathfinder, aged 21 and 22, as well as the passengers of the Mustang aged 15 and 17, were not immediately disclosed.
Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone with information about Santiago-Garcia’s whereabouts to contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Crime Stoppers.
