Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha have launched a bioplastic carry bag that has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Polythene-free Jammu initiative. The new bag was launched to reduce plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives. Puri has called on the public to shun polythene bags and shift to bags developed by DRDO that are better for the environment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the Swachhtha Andolan initiative, under his guidance, leads the country on the path of sustainable growth and development. Sinha has appreciated DRDO’s efforts to provide an alternative to polythene bags and called for a combined effort to achieve sustainable growth. The bioplastic bag is edible and water-soluble, making it the perfect alternative to curb the growing menace of plastic pollution. The Polythene-free Jammu campaign has been implemented to ensure that Jammu is free of polythene and single-use plastic. The sale of polythene and single-use plastic has already been completely banned in Jammu and Kashmir. Educational organizations, students, and media representatives were recognized for their significant contributions to the Polythene-Free Jammu campaign.
