Downtown Little Rock Restaurants Face Challenges Due to Extreme Heat, Temporary Closures for AC Repairs
Restaurants in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas are feeling the heat, both figuratively and literally, as scorching temperatures take a toll on their businesses. One such establishment is Mockingbird Bar and Tacos, where the owners made the difficult decision to temporarily close their doors in order to install a new air conditioning unit. Despite their best efforts to cool the space with fans, evaporative coolers, and dehumidifiers, the unbearable heat made it impossible to operate as usual. John Campbell, one of the owners, expressed his frustration over the situation, stating, It’s just brutal. You add bodies into the restaurant, I think the thermostat is reading at about 85-86 right now with nobody in here.
The closure is not just a business inconvenience; it also poses challenges for customers and employees alike. Campbell explained, It will be heavenly because it has been very brutal on our guests and our employees this week, so, just to get it down in temp to make it comfortable for everybody will be a dream come true.
Even The Root Café, a little restaurant on the corner, has had to make adjustments due to the extreme heat. They have been closing their doors during the hottest part of the day to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers and staff. Kimberly Foret, a manager at The Root Café, shared their strategy, saying, We did close from 2-5 p.m. yesterday and the day before, today, and we are looking at tomorrow. They have also taken additional steps such as adding extra fans, closing their outdoor seating area, and encouraging proper hydration and breaks for their staff.
Both restaurants are grateful for the support they have received from customers during this challenging period. They understand the importance of keeping their space as comfortable as possible during the heatwave, and are working diligently to restore normal operations.
