Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, SP Singh Baghel, inaugurated World Blood Donor Day at RML Hospital in New Delhi as part of the Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav campaign. The minister urged all citizens to donate blood, stating that one unit of blood can save up to three lives. Despite technological advancements, there is still no alternative to blood, he said. Baghel called on the public to demystify myths surrounding blood donation and give the gift of life. The campaign aims to raise awareness about non-remunerated voluntary blood donations and ensure the availability, accessibility, affordability, and safety of blood and its components. Baghel also encouraged people to teach future generations and debunk myths surrounding blood donations in rural areas. Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav is a nationwide drive backed by the E-Rakt Kosh portal, which serves as a national repository of blood donors, ensuring a robust blood donor record that will expedite availability when needed.
