Don Overcash, a two-term Loveland City Councilor, has announced his candidacy for the position of Loveland mayor. Overcash, a pharmacist and business consultant, believes it is time for a productive change in the center chair and aims to restore trust within the community.

Overcash has been serving as the Ward 4 representative since 2015 and was reelected in 2019. His experience includes chairing the Northern Colorado Regional Airport board, serving as a member of the Larimer County Solid Waste Policy council, and acting as a liaison to various advisory boards within the city. He has also held the position of mayor pro tem since 2019.

While Overcash attempted to unseat Mayor Jacki Marsh in 2021, he lost by a narrow margin. Despite facing two recall petitions since then, Overcash has decided to run for mayor once again. His decision was delayed to prioritize important council votes on the Centerra South urban renewal plan and the new terminal at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport.

Throughout his time on the council, Overcash has been a strong advocate for economic development in Loveland. He has actively participated in downtown revitalization efforts and supported projects such as Centerra South and In-N-Out Burger. Overcash has also been a proponent of Pulse, Loveland’s municipal broadband service, and has taken the lead on citywide initiatives regarding traffic and public safety.

One of Overcash’s proudest achievements is his ability to bring together his colleagues, who often have differing opinions, to create workable solutions for the benefit of Loveland. He acknowledges the importance of building a strong and cohesive team and working closely with city staff.

While Overcash has championed economic development, his relationship with Mayor Marsh has been fraught with discord. They have clashed on multiple issues, including the Centerra South urban renewal plan. Their disputes even reached court when the mayor requested access to Overcash’s text messages as part of a public records request.

Overcash has been a driving force in trying to restore trust between Loveland residents and the local government. He was involved in the formation of the city’s Community Trust Commission, which aimed to repair relations but disbanded due to resistance from the council.

If elected mayor, Overcash plans to focus on improving communication between the city and its residents. He also aims to address traffic control, public safety, affordable housing, and homelessness. Overcash understands the complexities of these issues and acknowledges the need to balance the concerns of residents while respecting the rights and stories of individuals experiencing homelessness.

Overall, Overcash’s goal is to lead City Council in creating the best possible solutions for all Loveland citizens. He wants to set the city on a path to prosperity and safety while prioritizing the well-being and satisfaction of the community.
