Musician and actor Dominic Fike recently revealed that his struggles with drug abuse nearly cost him his role on the popular HBO series Euphoria. Known for its portrayal of characters with a history of substance abuse, Fike’s real-life battle with drugs made it challenging for him to navigate the show’s drug-centric storyline.
During an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Fike, who played the character Elliot on the show, admitted to being under the influence while filming and shared that he almost got kicked off the set as a result. The show’s creator, Sam Levinson, even attempted to hire a sober coach to support Fike throughout the filming process. Unfortunately, this measure proved ineffective, as Fike continued to struggle with substance abuse during that time.
Reflecting on his experience, the 27-year-old artist confessed, I was so messed up during a lot of that show. It was really bad. He acknowledged that there were scenes in which he was high, and some of these instances even made it into the final cut of the episodes. Fike admitted to facing reprimands and being on the verge of losing his role due to his behavior.
The challenging nature of his addiction, combined with the pressure to perform on the show, highlights the difficulties Fike faced during this period. He acknowledged the unique struggle of being a drug addict on a show that heavily revolves around drug use. The clash between his personal struggles and the demanding nature of his job posed a significant obstacle.
Euphoria is set to return for its third season, although an official release date has not been announced yet. This news sheds light on the remarkable bravery and determination Fike demonstrated by sharing his personal struggles with the public. Hopefully, his honesty and openness will serve as a source of inspiration and provide a deeper understanding of the challenges individuals face when battling addiction.
