Doctors Arrested for Deaths During Unqualified Surgeries: AIIMS Report Unveils Shocking Findings

In a startling revelation, a recent report by the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) has exposed a series of unqualified surgeries conducted by doctors, resulting in multiple deaths. As a result, the police have arrested the doctors involved in these negligent practices.

The arrests were made based on the findings of the AIIMS medical board, which examined the death of a patient named Asgar Ali and uncovered evidence of unqualified individuals performing surgeries. The investigation was initiated following a complaint filed by Ali’s wife after his demise last year. However, it was the recent death of another patient named Jai Narayan that led to the arrests.

According to the statement issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, Chandan Choudhary, Ali’s wife filed a complaint at Greater Kailash Police Station on October 25, 2022. She alleged that her husband had been admitted to a healthcare center for gallbladder stone treatment and died due to negligence. The complainant claimed that renowned surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Singh was initially appointed for the surgery, but eventually, an unqualified individual named Dr. Mahender Singh performed the operation alongside Dr. Agarwal and Dr. Pooja Agarwal. Shockingly, it was later revealed that neither Singh nor Pooja was a licensed doctor.

The medical board’s analysis determined that Ali’s cause of death was hemorrhagic shock resulting from a laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure. The police have gathered substantial evidence indicating that vital organ surgeries were being conducted by individuals without the necessary qualifications.

To make matters worse, the police statement revealed that several complaints had been previously filed against Dr. Niraj Agarwal and his wife Puja Agarwal, owners of Agarwal Medical Centre, for cases of medical negligence leading to patient deaths. These incidents occurred between 2016 and the present day, resulting in a total of seven filed complaints with the Delhi Medical Council.

The second complaint was filed by Major Basoya on October 28. He accused Dr. Agarwal, his wife Pooja, and other staff members of the Agarwal Medical Centre of causing the death of his younger brother, Jai Narayan. Basoya claimed that his brother was admitted to the center after complaining of stomach ache, and Dr. Agarwal demanded a large sum of money for an urgent surgery. Following the payment, the surgery was conducted by Dr. Agarwal, his wife, and the center’s cleaning staff. Just 15 minutes after the operation, Basoya was informed that his brother had suffered a fatal heart attack. He further alleged the lack of sterilization in the operation room, the absence of authorized anesthesiologists, and the failure to conduct pre-surgical diagnostic tests.

In response to these grave allegations, the police launched a raid at the medical center and the residences of the accused parties. The authorities discovered 414 blank and signed prescription slips, two registers containing information about patients who underwent medical termination of pregnancy, banned medicines and injections, expired surgical blades, and multiple bank chequebooks and passbooks.

The arrests of these unqualified doctors and the evidence uncovered by the AIIMS report highlight the need for stricter regulations and vigilance in the medical field. The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of verifying the credentials and qualifications of healthcare professionals, as the consequences of their negligence can be devastating. The police investigation will hopefully bring justice to the victims and their families and act as a deterrent for any future malpractice.
