Dr. Joneed Iqbal, a 46-year-old medical officer from the remote village of Palmar in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, has won a gold medal in the Himalayan Stallion Sports Festival held at Delhi. The competition was held from 10th to 11th June at Pragati Maidan and saw over 400 athletes from across Asia participate.
Dr. Iqbal won the gold medal in the ‘Masters Men’s Physique Category,’ while also participating in the ICN Mumbai Classic Bodybuilding Championship in May earlier this year, where he won a silver medal in the Men’s Physique category and a bronze medal in the ‘Masters Men’s Physique Category.’
Born and raised in Palmar, Dr. Iqbal was inspired by his father’s hard work and dedication. He started training and working out at the gym around 16 years ago and has been dedicated to fitness ever since. Despite having a huge responsibility as a medical officer in a remote area, he managed to make time for his passion.
He has credited his supportive family, department, gym partner, and his colleagues for his success, saying that he could not have achieved it without their wholehearted support. Dr. Iqbal is also proud of the fact that he has never used any muscle-enhancing medicines or steroids.
In his words, I believe the youngsters of today have the ability to ameliorate the physical standard of living. This strategy would keep them away from the prevailing evils of drug nuisance and other social evils.
This is not the first time Dr. Iqbal has brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir, as he is already a well-known name in the fitness industry and has participated in several bodybuilding competitions. He has become the first athlete from the entire Doda region to win medals at the national level.
