The DMK, the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, has criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on the Centre’s initiatives for the state. The DMK’s leader T R Baalu has said that the funds and subsidies allocated to the state were part of the government’s constitutional duty and nothing special. Baalu further claimed that Shah could not point out any special schemes requested by the CM MK Stalin, as demanded by him.
Earlier, Shah had detailed various initiatives of Modi-led Union government for the state and stated that central funds to Tamil Nadu had increased manifold during the past nine years. However, Baalu disagreed with Shah’s claims and reiterated that the central government was providing state funds as per its constitutional obligation.
Stalin had demanded that the Centre list out all the special schemes for Tamil Nadu in the past nine years, which Shah could not provide, according to Baalu. The ruling party emphasized that every government has to fulfill its constitutional duties of providing funds and subsidies for the states.
