DJ LeMahieu Set to Return for Yankees’ Series Against Braves After Calf Injury
After a brief hiatus due to a calf injury, DJ LeMahieu is set to make his return to the New York Yankees lineup for their upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves. LeMahieu missed four consecutive games due to tightness in his right calf, but he expressed confidence in his readiness to play in the series finale against the Miami Marlins. However, the Yankees decided to give him an extra day to ensure his full recovery.
LeMahieu initially experienced tightness in his calf last Wednesday while taking swings in the batting cage. However, the discomfort has subsided, and he has been able to participate in pregame workouts over the weekend. Prior to his injury, LeMahieu had been performing well at the plate, hitting .309 with a .824 OPS in his last 23 games after overcoming a slump.
The veteran infielder expressed his frustration at being sidelined, stating, I want to be out there. I take pride in being out there. LeMahieu’s return will undoubtedly boost the Yankees’ lineup as they face the formidable Braves, who recently dominated the New York Mets.
The Braves possess a strong offensive lineup, with several key players having exceptional campaigns. Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying, They’re a heavyweight… Probably about as good an offense as you’re going to come across. We know we’ll have our work cut out for us there.
In addition to LeMahieu’s return, the Yankees are also hopeful for the comeback of pitcher Carlos Rodon. Rodon recently threw a successful bullpen session and is set to have a simulated game at the Yankees’ player development complex in Tampa this week. If all goes well, Rodon could be activated off the injured list on August 22 when the Yankees face the Nationals.
As the Yankees gear up to face the Braves, they will be aiming to regain momentum and secure crucial victories in the highly competitive American League East. LeMahieu’s return will undoubtedly provide a much-needed boost to their lineup as they enter the final stretch of the baseball season.
