The Manasa police in Madhya Pradesh have booked district education officer employee, Anil Goyal, under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code after he allegedly abetted the suicide of Arjun Rajput, a peon at the Manasa Block Resource Co-Ordinator (BRC) centre. Rajput was found hanging from a gooseberry tree at the BRC centre on June 8.
In a suicide note found on his body, Rajput accused Goyal of mental torture and not releasing his arrear amount of INR 10-12 lakhs, despite taking a bribe of INR 60,000. The note was addressed to the Manasa police station in-charge. The FIR filed listed the accused’s name as Arun Goyal alias Anil Goyal alias A Goyal.
District education officer CK Sharma has stated that action has been taken against the accused. However, the police are yet to release official information on the matter. The locals claim that Goyal, who is the brother of Congress leader Madhu Bansal, is against whom the deceased had levelled serious allegations.
Abetment to suicide, defined under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, is a non-bailable offence with a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail. The police are investigating the matter and will take strict action against the accused if found guilty.
