Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse director Kemp Powers has discussed the unique qualities of Pavitr Prabhakar – an Indian version of Spider-Man – debuting in the upcoming film. Voice actor Shubman Gill will bring to life the character in both Hindi and English.
This version of Spider-Man first appeared in a 2005 comic book called Spider-Man: India. This movie marks Pavitr’s first ever appearance on the big screen.
Powers mentioned that Pavitr’s empowered origin is different from those of other Spider-People, as his powers come from a mystic shaman instead of a radioactive spider. Like many other Spider-People, Pavitr has also suffered a traumatic loss, but is surprisingly upbeat. This, however, does not sit well with Miles, being his more mature contemporary.
Sony Pictures Entertainment India will be releasing this movie in 10 different languages on the first of June, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, and Bengali. It will be exclusively screened in cinemas.
Sony Pictures Entertainment India is one of the largest media and entertainment companies in India with TV and film productions, music, mobile, games, and digital businesses. It has also recently ventured into e-commerce with its music streaming platform, SonyLIV.
Kemp Powers is an award-winning playwright, writer, and director. He directed the upcoming Spider-Man film, and also wrote the screenplay for Pixar’s Soul – which turned out to be a huge success. Apart from that, Powers is angling for directing other projects too, such as the forthcoming adventure film titled One Night in Miami.
