Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has criticized the government’s failure to act and rectify a fault in the signal interlocking system that led to the tragic Balasore train crash. Singh claimed that a senior Railway official had warned about the risk of train accidents due to the faulty interlocking system and emphasized the need for immediate rectification back in February. He also targeted the bullet train project, which is deemed unaffordable to the poor, and the increasing number of railway derailments in India. Singh also claimed that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India’s (CAG) report on ways to bring down railway derailments in the country was never discussed by the government in Parliament. Singh also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of having “megalomania” disease and wanting to be the sole feature of every event’s photographs. During his visit to Indore, he reviewed the Congress party’s ongoing preparations to win BJP’s major bastions, Indore-II and Indore-IV constituencies. He, however, expressed displeasure over party workers’ indiscipline and said that Congress would never get defeated in any elections if the party workers remain disciplined.
