Controversy Surrounds DGP’s Statement on Involvement in Killing of Junaid and Nasir

In a recent development surrounding the tragic killings of Junaid and Nasir, the statement made by the Director General of Police (DGP) has sparked controversy over the possible involvement of Monu Manesar. The DGP’s remarks have raised questions about his role in the violence that unfolded in the Nuh region of Haryana on July 31st, a situation that eventually spilled over into neighbouring Gurugram.

While addressing reporters, DGP Sanjeev Mishra explained that Monu Manesar was not among the criminals present at the scene of the crime. Mishra informed the media that the police team had gone to Nuh and was seeking the assistance of Haryana Police to investigate Monu Manesar’s indirect role in the killings. This statement comes at a time when the killings are seen as a contributing factor to the violence in the region.

The response to Mishra’s statement has been mixed. Kulbushan Bhardwaj, an advocate from Gurugram and a member of the Hindutva group Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), welcomed the DGP’s remarks. Bhardwaj pointed out that Monu Manesar, a member of VHP’s youth wing called Bajrang Dal, had been falsely accused. According to Bhardwaj, Monu Manesar was staying at a hotel on the day of the killings, and his location could be verified by the police. He believes that Monu Manesar was defamed and framed in this case.

However, Junaid’s family takes a different stance on this matter. They view Monu Manesar as the individual responsible for the killings and claim that he orchestrated the entire incident. Ismail, Junaid’s brother, who filed the First Information Report (FIR) following the discovery of the bodies, stated that the evidence against Monu Manesar is with the police. Ismail rejects the DGP’s statement, forcefully asserting Monu Manesar’s direct involvement in the killings.

The case revolves around the abduction, torture, and subsequent killing of Junaid and Nasir, who hailed from Bharatpur in Rajasthan. Their charred bodies were found near Loharu in Haryana’s Bhiwani district on February 16th. Monu Manesar, also known as Mohit Yadav, has been a prime suspect in this case since then.

What sparked the recent violence in Nuh was a religious procession organized by the VHP, which escalated into clashes resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including two home guards and a cleric. One week prior to the violence, Monu Manesar allegedly posted provocative videos on social media. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had promised to assist the Rajasthan Police in apprehending Monu Manesar if he was found guilty.

The DGP’s statement has left Junaid’s family feeling helpless. Despite their belief in Monu Manesar’s involvement, they are unable to change what the DGP has said. Nevertheless, Ismail remains firm in his conviction that Monu Manesar played a significant role in the killings.

This latest development has further intensified the debate surrounding the incidents and highlights the need for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served for Junaid and Nasir. As the legal process unfolds, it remains to be seen how the case will progress and whether the allegations against Monu Manesar will be proven or disproven.
