Devon Police Share Incidents Over 24 Hours to Highlight Busyness of Response Teams
The Devon Police have revealed the sheer volume of incidents their response teams handle in a single day. In an effort to shed light on the demanding nature of their work, the east Devon force took to social media to outline the diverse range of calls responded to over the past 24 hours.
This disclosure coincides with the culmination of National Response Policing Week, a campaign aimed at raising awareness about the crucial role of response officers, who are responsible for attending emergency incidents and addressing urgent issues. The list of incidents covered a wide spectrum, ranging from mental health and missing persons to road accidents and sex offenses.
The rural east Devon police posted on Facebook earlier today, stating, In the last 24 hours in Exeter, Mid, and East Devon, our response officers have handled over 120 service calls. These included detaining four individuals under the Mental Health Act, responding to numerous well-being concerns, making 11 arrests, searching for 10 missing persons (including two high-risk cases), attending numerous domestic incidents, dealing with cases of anti-social behavior, road traffic collisions, alcohol-related street violence, sexual offenses, sudden deaths, and much more.
The post concluded by emphasizing the lack of downtime for the officers, stating, Certainly no time for a coffee break. Normal service is resumed.
This statement refers to a previous post on the team’s Facebook page made the day before. The earlier post featured a photograph of colleagues taking a break for coffee when they were not assigned to any urgent calls at that moment. The accompanying caption read, A rare opportunity to gather the uncommitted response team members for a team-building coffee during the night shift. Police officers are allowed breaks too, as we’re all human! Rest assured, no calls for service were missed due to our coffee break.
Devon Police are providing this glimpse into their daily operations to highlight the demanding and relentless nature of their work. Despite the perception that police officers have ample opportunity for rest and relaxation, their schedules are often filled with responding to emergencies and ensuring public safety.
In an effort to maintain transparency and counter the misconception that the police force has an abundance of free time, Devon Police aim to show the public the dedication and commitment of their response teams.
As the community acknowledges the efforts of Devon Police and other response officers across the country during National Response Policing Week, it’s essential to recognize the many challenges and diverse range of incidents they handle each day, steadily working to maintain law and order in our communities.
