New Delhi: British actor Dev Patel is set to showcase his directorial prowess in his upcoming film Monkey Man, establishing himself not only as an excellent actor but also as an impressive director. The 33-year-old star recently appeared visibly moved after the film received a standing ovation at the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival.
Jordan Peele, who serves as a producer of the project, introduced the movie to the audience at the gala, held annually in Austin, Texas. After the screening of the flick, Dev garnered loud cheers and applause as he went onto the stage. He became emotional after witnessing an overwhelming response from the viewers.
Dev mentioned that, while growing up, he was amazed by the iconography of this super strong being (Lord Hanuman) who could carry mountains in one hand and split open his chest. I was like this is amazing, I wish the world knew about it, he stated.
The flick is scheduled to be released in theatres on April 5, 2024. It also features Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, and Makarand Deshpande in important roles.
Monkey Man’s storyline revolves around an anonymous young man, working in an underground fight club, who sets out to exact revenge against a group of corrupt leaders. He wants to settle scores with the culprits who are responsible for his mother’s death and take advantage of the poor people.
The film is produced by Patel, Jomon Thomas, Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, and Anjay Nagpal. Dev penned its screenplay along with Paul Angunawela and John Collee.
