Registered Nurse Needed for Inpatient Behavioral Health in Muskogee, Oklahoma

The Department of Veterans Affairs is currently seeking a qualified registered nurse for an inpatient behavioral health position in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Being a massive employer, the United States government is always looking for qualified candidates to fill various open positions across the country.

The role requires the nurse to have a graduate degree from a professional nursing school approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Alternatively, graduates of foreign nursing schools can possess current, full, active, and unrestricted registration to fulfill the graduation requirement. Additionally, candidates must have current, unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

While mental health experience is preferred, the Department of Veterans Affairs is open to candidates with varying levels of nursing practice and experience. The grade assignment of candidates will be determined based on education, qualifications, and experience in the field of nursing.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered, but all requirements must be met before being hired.

Due to the diverse population served by the Department of Veterans Affairs in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the selected nurse should possess physical abilities such as visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The position may involve long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing, as well as patient transfers. Additionally, the role may require the wearing of protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures, and exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials. The nurse may occasionally encounter combative patients due to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. Therefore, the ideal candidate must be mature, flexible, and capable of working effectively in stressful situations while prioritizing patient needs.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is committed to providing quality healthcare for our nation’s veterans, and the role of Registered Nurse – Inpatient Behavioral Health plays a crucial part in achieving that mission.
