The Denver Broncos have a tough decision to make this summer when it comes to their wide receivers, as they have 12 players competing for position on the 90-man offseason roster. Even with an active roster that can only carry six receivers, the team is going to have to make some difficult choices.
At present, it seems that Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick, Courtland Sutton, and Marvin Mims are the most likely locks for the 53-man roster, with Kendall Hinton, Jalen Virgil, Marquez Callaway, and Brandon Johnson trailing behind. However, with the potential for trades and cuts, anything can happen in the coming months.
With regards to the projected wide receiver depth chart ahead of training camp next month, the team’s No. 1 receiver is expected to be Tim Patrick while Jerry Jeudy will come in at No. 2. This doesn’t mean that Jeudy isn’t the most talented receiver on the team, but only that Patrick has the size and skillset required to play the role.
Meanwhile, there was a time when Courtland Sutton was considered the team’s WR1, but after two disappointing seasons, his ranking has fallen, placing him now in the No. 3 spot. Rookie Marvin Mims will likely come in at the No. 4 position, while the fifth and sixth spots are open for competition between Kendall Hinton, Jalen Virgil, Marquez Callaway, and Brandon Johnson.
KJ Hamler and Montrell Washington could end up on the roster bubble following the arrival of Marvin Mims, with undrafted rookie Taylor Grimes and former Saints backup Lil’Jordan Humphrey also being long shots to make the 53-man list.
Overall, the Broncos have fantastic depth at the receiver position, enabling them to stash a few talented options on the practice squad during the season. Anyone who makes it to the active roster will have done so after a crowded WR competition this summer.
