A Florida woman has reportedly suffered brain damage as a result of a fentanyl overdose during a dental surgery in Texas. Maria Lugo Querales experienced the overdose on May 10, 2022, in Marble Falls, Texas, after being administered anesthesia by Dr. Jerry Teague, according to a lawsuit filed by Lugo’s husband, Luis Espana. The lawsuit alleges that Teague gave Lugo an excessive dose of anesthesia without intubating her first. The suit also names two other dentists and the clinic as defendants. Lugo went to the clinic for alleged ‘cavitations’ and the extraction of an asymptomatic root canal-treated tooth. Teague, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer, disappeared the day before treating Lugo and passed away two weeks later. Lugo now relies on 24-hour care and resides in a neurological facility. The lawsuit seeks damages from the clinic, and a settlement has been reached with Teague’s estate.
