The Delhi High Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the Mukherjee Nagar fire incident and has issued notices to the Delhi Government, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to respond within two weeks. The court has asked for a fire safety audit to be conducted in such buildings to ensure that adequate fire safety measures are in place. The move comes after a short circuit in the electricity system of a building that housed a coaching center for over 500 students caused a scare in the locality. The Delhi Fire Services has been instructed to check whether these institutes have fire safety certificates or not. The concerned parties have been given two weeks to respond and the matter will be heard on July 3.
