Delhi University (DU) climbed two spots in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, securing the 11th position in the ranking methodology of the Union Ministry of Education. This year, the university’s position has improved in the overall rankings by one spot. DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh credited the improvement to the hard work of his predecessors and shared that work is being done to improve rankings in the coming years.
Although DU is ranked behind Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in the university category, five DU colleges have been placed among the top 10 colleges in the NIRF rankings. Miranda House bagged the top spot for the seventh consecutive year. Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD) was ranked above Lady Shri Ram College and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).
While DU has shown improvement in all parameters except perception this year, Singh shared that work is being done to improve the teacher-student ratio as it may be one of the reasons for the varsity slipping in the rankings. NIRF took into account the number of research articles published and citations received by publications from 2019 to 2021 in various categories like overall, universities, colleges, and research institutions.
