Members of Delhi University’s Economics faculty have opposed a suggestion to drop three elective papers from the undergraduate programme. The papers, which include ‘Economy, State and Society’, ‘Production Relations and Globalisation’, and ‘Economics of Discrimination’, have been deemed redundant and not required by some members of the Academic Council. However, professors argue that the papers are of significant relevance and their relevance is not overlapping. An expert committee will be formed to look into the matter and provide their recommendation in a Standing Committee and Academic Council meeting in mid-June. The committee will review the papers’ content and suggest new courses that will support India’s economic growth.
