Delhi to Introduce Increase in Electricity Prices for Consumption Above 200 Units, Criticized by Atishi

Delhi’s power consumers who consume more than 200 units per month will have to pay more after an 8% increase in the power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC). The hike will not impact consumers whose electricity consumption is 200 units or below, according to Atishi, the power minister in the city government. She alleged that the Centre’s mismanagement has led to a rise in electricity prices in the city. She stated that there will be an 8% increase in the PPAC surcharge on the power bills of those consumers who do not receive subsidies.

Atishi’s remarks came in response to the increase in the PPAC surcharge, stating that it was due to the Centre’s forcing the use of imported coal, which is 10 times more expensive than domestic coal. Despite the country’s abundance of coal mines and coal availability, she adds that the Centre’s decision has led to an inflated cost of electricity for the city’s consumers.

As a result of this move, electricity consumers in Delhi with higher power usage are increasing their monthly electricity bills. The PPAC charges will rise from 1.25% to 2.42% on consumption over 200 units from July 1, 2021.

The move has sparked widespread criticism, with many calling for the Centre to reconsider its stance on imported coal. Atishi, however, has expressed her disappointment in the Centre’s decision and has accused them of mismanaging the situation.

In conclusion, electricity prices in Delhi are set to rise above 200 units. Atishi has blamed the Centre for the increase in costs, stating that it was due to their misuse of imported coal. The energy price increase is set to impact consumers who consume over 200 units per month and do not receive subsidies. Meanwhile, the Centre faces calls to reconsider its stance on imported coal as prices continue to rise.
