The Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), a student organization, has called for the resignation of the director of DU’s (Delhi University) School of Open Learning (SOL), Payal Mago, over the abrupt cancellation of a degree distribution event. The degree fair, which was meant to distribute degrees to students who had graduated, was called off by SOL despite scores of students being present at the venue. The KYS claimed that SOL has been violating key provisions of the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 and has been plagued with issues like cancelling exams abruptly after students arrive at exam centers and general mismanagement. DU Academic Council member Maya John also joined in on the calls for a comprehensive financial and academic audit of SOL. The students who gathered at the venue were unable to get inside, resulting in a stampede due to ‘mismanagement’ by SOL.
